LG OLED65C7P is part of LG’s 2017 OLED TV lineup C Series. It is actually is the successor of OLED65C6P. But since OLED65C7P comes with flat panel and is not equipped with 3D technology while OLED65C6P comes with curved panel and equipped with 3D technology, it precisely is similar to last year model LG OLED65B6P which equally come with flat panel and without 3D technology.  So, what are their differences and which one is better choice between them? Short Review of LG OLED65B6P

LG OLED65B6P is part of LG’s 2016 OLED TV lineup B Series, the lowest model of LG OLED TV lineup which released in 2016. Come with HDR technology, it is certified by Ultra HD Premium Certification set by UHD Alliance and including a few HDR TVs released in 2016 which can display HDR 10 format fully. Nevertheless, not only HDR 10 format that is already supported by OLED65B6P, it also already supports Dolby Vision, a proprietary HDR format by Dolby Laboratories. Like other model of LG’s OLED TV lineup, picture quality especially black level and contrast is the main advantage of OLED65B6P. Short Review of LG OLED65C7P

Unlike the predecessor LG OLED65C6P that comes with curved panel and 3D technology, LG OLED65C7P is precisely is more similar to OLED65B6P where it comes with flat panel and is not equipped with 3D technology. Meanwhile, still come with HDR technology, OLED65C7P is also certified by Ultra HD Premium certification that means all of its display specs meet the minimum standardization of HDR 10 set by UHD Alliance. And in addition to HDR 10 format that supported, it also already supports other HDR formats including Dolby Vision by Dolby laboratories, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) by NHK and BBC, and also Advanced HDR by Technicolor. A new feature that offered is about HDR effect that has functions like SDR to HDR converter where this technology is designed to improve the contrast and brightness range of the video source.

Meanwhile, picture quality still becomes the major advantage of LG OLED65C7P due prefect black level and infinite contrast produced by it. Color is also very saturated since it already support wide color gamut. Additionally, although not as bright as what reached by premium LED TV and still below 1000 nits, peak brightness of OLED65C7P is bright enough to makes its HDR performance is great, particularly when used in a dark room or a bright room with normal light condition. On the other hand, motion handling of LG OLED65C7P is also very great, far better than the best of LED TV. LG OLED65C7P vs OLED65B6P Key Specs

The difference between LG OLED65B6P and OLED65C7P

As we see on comparison table above, there are some items which become the differences between LG OLED65B6P and OLED65C7P. One of the major differences between them is about HDR formats which supported by them where OLED65B6P support HDR 10 and Dolby Vision only while OLED65C7P already supports most of HDR formats which available in the market including HDR 10, Dolby Vision, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma), and Advanced HDR by Technicolor. Still about HDR performance, LG OLED65C7P comes with a new feature called “HDR Effect” that designed for improving the contrast and brightness range of the source. This allows you to enjoy SDR contents with the quality close to HDR contents.

Additionally, there are also some minor differences between them in term of inputs/outputs and sound quality that doesn’t have a big impact on the picture quality produced by them. In term of inputs/outputs is about the Component In where LG OLED65B6P is equipped with 1 port Component In while OLED65C7P is not equipped with this input. The other difference is about their sound equipment where OLED65B6P is powered by 4.0 channel speaker system with 40 watts total sound output designed by HarmanKardon, while OLED65C7P is powered by 2.2 channel speaker system also with 40 watts total power.

Picture Quality

Ignoring the difference in features that offered by them, quality of the picture produced by OLED65C7P and OLED65B6P looks identical. Black level is perfect and contrast is infinite that makes their dark room performance is great. Blacks of images looks absolutely dark that makes detail of images in dark scenes looks very clear particularly when inputted by HDR signals. Perfect black level also makes the color in dark scenes looks more vibrant so dark scenes of images looks more natural and realistic. And since black level and contrast are the most important aspects of picture and HDR Performance, this certainly makes the picture produced by them is absolutely amazing and their HDR performance is great.

On the other hand, both of LG OLED65C7P and OLED65B6P also can cover wide range of color gamut. With 4 color sub pixel technology that supported by the number of technologies behind them, both of them can cover more than 90% of DCI P3 color space as the minimum recommendation for displaying HDR 10 fully or precisely they can deliver about 95% of DCI P3 Color space. In addition to DCI P3 color space, color gamut delivered by them also can cover well Rec.2020 color space that required by Dolby Vision. The result, color of the picture displayed looks very saturated even when displaying HDR content that require wide color gamut. Even for deep green where most of TVs cannot produce perfectly, it looks precise on the screen of OLED65B6P and OLED65C7P. Meanwhile, both of LG OLED65C7P and OLED65B6P also already support 10 bit depth of color. This means both of them can deliver about 1.0 shades of color that makes color gradient of the picture displayed on their screen look very smooth. In the darker color, the imperfection might still a bit noticeable, but this should not be a big problem for every day usage.

While black level, contrast, and color produced by them are similar, in term of peak brightness, LG OLED65C7P offer slight better picture than OLED65B6P due its peak brightness is brighter. Nevertheless, ignoring their difference in peak brightness that reached, peak brightness reached by them is bright enough to make its HDR performance is great. As we know, to get Ultra HD Premium Certification, an OLED TV must reach at least 550 nits of peak brightness while OLED65B6P can reach about 600 nits and OLED65C7P even is brighter that is about 700 nits. Of course, peak brightness reached by them is bright enough to fight the glare when used in a moderately bright room, so the picture produced still looks consistently amazing. Nevertheless, when used in a extremely bright room with sunlight coming in through the window, the picture produced by then is not still quite bright. As the comparison, a premium LED TV where their extremely bright room performance is great like Sony X930E or Samsung KS series in last year can reach about 1500 nits of peak brightness while what reached by OLED65B6P and OLED65C7P is still below 1000 nits. Meanwhile when displaying fast moving image, both of LG OLED65C7P and OLED65B6P also offer smooth and clear picture quality. Their pixel response time is very low that makes motion blur following the fast moving object is almost no noticeable. What offered by them even is better than premium LED TV with the best motion handling. Of course, this will make you more comfort when enjoying your favorites sport program or fast movies. While both of them offer similar performance when handling motion blur, their performance when playing 24p movies is different particularly when displaying 24p movies via 60p or 60i signals. For this case, LG OLED65C7P offers better performance with judder-free when playing 24p movies regardless the source, while OLED65B6PP only offer judder-free when playing native 24p movies from Blu-Ray Player. Meanwhile, when playing 24p via 60p signals like movies from streaming media or via 60i signals like movies from satellite TV, judder cannot be removed completely on the screen of OLED65B6P. Nevertheless, because most of people don’t notice about judder, this certainly is not a big issue for OLED65B6P.’

As we have mentioned above, a bit difference is about Component In where on OLED65B6P, there is 1 Component In, while OLED65C7P is not equipped with component In. But because most of HD devices already use HDMI ports as their main connectivity, this certainly is not a big issue for OLED65C7P. Meanwhile talking about their input lag, overall the input lag of LG OLED65C7P is lower than OLED65B6P regardless the source. This mean for playing games, OLED65C7P is more comfortable especially for fast paced games that need fast reflexes. Nevertheless, although not as low as OLED65C7P, the input lag of OLED65B6P is low enough for playing casual games. While for playing fast paced games, this might still be a bit disappointing.

Smart TV

Essentially, LG OLED65C7P and OLED65B6P feature the same smart TV platform that is WebOS Operating System. The difference is about their version where OLED65B6P come with version 3.0 while OLED65C7P comes with newer version that is version 3.5. Nevertheless, there is no significant difference between these versions. A bit improvement is about the hardware on WebOS 3.5 that makes its performance more responsive. One of the advantages of WebOS is about its simplicity and attractively of the layout. To access “Home Screen” of the platform, you just need press the “home” button on the remote. Navigating between different menus feels simple and straight forward. Additionally, it is also very responsive. Once you launch an app, it will open quickly. Additionally, selecting between apps also feel fast and responsive. Meanwhile about the apps provided, there are a lot of and diverse apps available. There are premium VoD service lie Youtube, Netflix, HuluPlus, Amazon Videos, and more, Games, Web Browser, LG Apps and Content Store, and many more. This remote also can be used as a universal remote that allows you to control other devices connected on LG TV with a single LG Remote.

Conclusion

As we have discussed a lot above, quality of the picture produced by them is similar. Both of them equally produce perfect black level, infinite contrast, and wide color gamut that makes quality of the picture displayed on their screen looks absolute amazing. Come with HDR, both of them are also equally certified by Ultra HD Premium Certification set by UHD Alliance that guarantee great HDR performance offered by them, especially when displaying HDR 10 contents. Nevertheless, OLED65C7P already support more HDR formats than OLED65B6P. Meanwhile, as a newer model, LG OLED65C7P offer slight brighter picture and lower input lag that makes its HDR performance is slight better and make it more comfortable when used for playing games than OLED65B6P.

So, which is a better choice between them? Considering there are not many major differences between and when I was writing this comparison, LG OLED65C7P is sold hundreds dollar more expensive than OLED65B6P,  for a while until the price of OLED6C7P drops a bit, I think OLED65B6P is a better choice. Nevertheless, if you don’t mind to spend hundreds dollar to get a newer model and some advantages that offered by OLED65C7P, this is also not a bad choice.  Now, the decision comes back to you according to your need and preferences.
