Short Review of LG OLED55B6P

LG OLED55B6P is the lowest model of LG’s 2016 OLED TV lineup. But although it is sold cheapest than other OLED TV model, picture quality that offered is not far behind them. Perfect Black level and infinite contrast is the flagship that makes the picture that produced is including the best in 2016. This is due black level and contrast is the most important aspects of picture quality and wins out over color and brightness. In addition reveals more detail in shadow or dark scenes, perfect black level also makes color pops more. That’s why OLED TV offers better picture quality than OLED TV due its deeper black level and stronger contrast.  Meanwhile, in term of color reproduction itself, OLED55B6P can cover about 96% of DCI P3 color space where this exceeds 90% of DCI P3 color space what required for displaying HDR 10 contents fully. Of course this makes the color of the picture produced looks very saturated and more vibrant no matter they are displaying HDR or SDR contents. Additionally, LG OLED55B6P also support true 10 bit panel. This means it can deliver about 1.07 billion shades of color and makes its color gradient looks very smooth. In other hands, peak brightness reached by OLED55B6P might not as bright as what reached by Samsung SUHD TV including UN55KS8000, but at least, it still exceeds the minimum peak brightness for Ultra HD Premium. As long as you are not use it in a very bright room or a room with outside sunlight effects, its peak brightness is quite bright for maintaining picture quality in area highlighted by indoor direct light.

In addition to excellent picture quality, LG OLED55B6P also offers perfect performance on side viewing angle and motion blur handling. Quality of the picture looks consistently at any viewing angle without any contrast and color deterioration.  Additionally, its pixel response time is very quick, far quick than as possibly quick what reached by LED TV. This makes there is no motion blur noticeable behind fast moving object when it is displaying fast moving contents like sports program or fast movies. The input lag is also very low that makes it is comfortable to use for playing games. And that is not less interesting is about is attractive WebOS 3.0 as its platform where it is the best smart TV platform in 2016.

Short Review of Samsung UN55KS8000

Although Samsung UN55KS8000 is including the lowest model of Samsung’s 2016 SUHD TV lineup and sold cheaper that higher series, but picture quality and performance is not also far different to what offered by the higher series like KS8500 or even KS9000. Ultra HD Premium Certification is one of the flagships of UN55KS8000 that guarantees its great performance when displaying HDR 10 contents. Like OLED55B6P, with Ultra HD premium Certification, this means it can display HDR 10 contents fully without any issues. The excepting of its poor viewing angle, Samsung UN55KS8000 also offer great display specs on almost all aspect of picture quality that make the picture displayed looks very amazing. Although not as deep as and strong as what offered by OLED55B6P, its black level is very deep and contrast is very strong for a LED TV, far deeper than minimum standardization required for displaying HDR 10 contents fully. It also supports wide color gamut for HDR where it can cover about 95% of DCI P3 color space. Color gradient is also looks very smooth despite not as perfect as what offered by OLED55B6P. Meanwhile, peak brightness reached by UN55KS8000 is very bright, that is about 1500 nits. It is far brighter than what reached by OLED55B6P that is about 750 nits and makes it offers far brighter picture and looks consistently in a very bright room, even in sun highlighted effects. Nevertheless, peak brightness is very important for HDR, but its importance is not as important as black level and contrast.

When handling motion blur, Samsung UN55KS8000 also offers great performance but not as perfect as what offered by OLED TV. a faint trail behind fast moving objects is still noticeable when you are watching sports or fast movies although it is not too distracting. In other hand, the input lag of UN55KS8000 is also very low, even lower than OLED55B6P that makes it is great for video games. For completing your 4K entertainment with smart TV, it features Tizen OS smart TV that is not less attractive and responsive than WebOS 3.0.

But unfortunately, unlike OLED TV where it offers perfect side viewing angle, viewing angle of Samsung UN55KS8000 is very poor.  Started at 20 degrees off center and front, contrast and color will looks degraded. In other hand, UN55KS8000 supports only HDR 10 format only and cannot play Dolby Vision Format.
